Water Lettuce (Pistia stratiotes)

Water Lettuce is a rosette-style floating plant that grows quickly and provides shade. Its roots also offer shelter for fry and shrimp.

When your fish, snails, or shrimp arrive by mail, open the box right away and turn the lights off to reduce stress. Float the sealed bag in your aquarium or quarantine tank for about 15–20 minutes so the water temperature slowly matches. Then open the bag and add a small amount of tank water every 5 minutes for another 15–20 minutes to help them adjust to water chemistry. Once acclimated, gently net or scoop them into the tank and discard the shipping water. Keep lights low and avoid feeding for the first 12–24 hours so they can settle in calmly.
